Hello there,

I’m Fred, creative developer based in Paris.

The exhibition takes place in a fictional biology laboratory : our research group have discovered a bio-digital life form, at the edge of physical and virtual worlds. Visitors can help unveiling its secrets by generating plenty of various ecosystems.

The interaction is simple : stamp the culture sheet to give birth to a living being. Each stamp gives life to a specific species that belongs to a family. The families affect the ecosystem's balance, and that's what remains mysterious about those living things.

Thanks to these tools, visitors can create their own unique ecosystem. Once they decide their creation is rich enough, they can name, analyse and archive it in the lab's directory to contribute to the bio-digital research.

For this project we had to develop a program capable of detecting and identifying specific stamps inked on paper. To make this, we used a nice mix of technologies : machine learning with tensorflow, image detection with OpenCV and infrared light, and image generation with pixi.js.

My main tasks on this project : animate the ecosystem using Unity and generate the ambient music using tone.js.

Every 10s, the program reads a random image from Unsplash and transforms its pixels’ color depending on changing parameters.

The main changing parameter is the color loss amount. A high loss value makes the render very homogeneous, whereas a very low loss value makes the render close to the original image, making each result quite impredictable.

After setting the colors, the render is animated by random-scaling each pixel with time.

I think the beauty comes when the painting shows aspects that are not really obvious with human eye, such as blur, gradients and motion.

Technically it is mainly made of manipulating canvas2D, ImageData, and colors.

The website shows the face of the unknown soldier, which was generated using 30000 soldiers' photographs.

We transformed the website into an interactive installation in the Great War museum, using the Leap Motion.

Explore the animated 3D maps and points of interests to learn about RTE's projects and challenges.

My main tasks on this project were interface integration and customisation of some map details.

We used homemade tools to export sprites in layers and animate them. A big challenge was to make vehicles follow paths through the layers.

In a world where 1 animal species disappears every 20 min, the concept of "emerging species" was a way to underline the incredible power of creation that Play-Doh offers.

This project aimed to create new ways of reading news, in the context of a partnership between Gobelins and the AFP.

Each QUO presents news and recommends cultural contents to deepen the subject by your own.

The receipt is printed from interactive terminals that are accessible in public and cultural spaces, like libraries or cinemas.

We crafted a CMS to design and schedule the updates of the content, in order to be used by journalists.

My main tasks were building the CMS using React, making it communicate with the terminal's raspberry and writing editorial content. Read the full conception document here.

This side-project is an attempt to create a pleasing scene, both graphic, musical and playful. It uses webaudio to generate random melodies with pentatonic scale.

Each little monolith represents a note, that depends on its y position. When it passes near the big monolith, it plays its note.

You can disable the renderer autoclear by pressing 'space', and use it to generate gravitational visuals.

I used three.js, some shaders and css to make the visual aspect. For the music, I used webaudio with simple oscillators and some reverb.
